The client provides the architect with basic terms for the planned building, according to which the designer will devise their vision and concept. A draft design should be ready after two-three weeks’ design work (the duration depends on the complexity and volume of the building, the level of difficulty of the design etc.), as a result of the cooperation between the client and the architect. The draft design shows the following:
- preliminary drawings of plans, views and intersections and general data (names, areas and dimensions of spaces);
- the external form and configuration of the building (to be specified and detailed in the course of the subsequent design work);
- the explanatory report indicates the general architectural layout of the plot and the building, as well as general information on the materials of construction and technical data;
- the cost is ca 1/3 of the cost of the basic design.
Generally, the draft design is necessary for the client and the architect for
confirming the configuration of the building and as a starting point for engineers
and designers of specific components.
Depending on the object, the draft design may be required for the approvals by officials and architects of the local municipality.
